1) I’ve heard most insurance companies use credit scores, mine isn’t so good, will this change how much I pay?
No, Great Lakes Mutual does not use credit scoring to assess a risk. We think our rates are competitive and that we are a very user-friendly company. Although some companies in Michigan do use credit scoring we underwrite risk based on a property’s condition and its physical factors. We still believe a person’s character is more than just a credit score.
2) Will a higher deductible really change my premium that much?
Yes it is true that higher deductible choices can lower the premium you pay. Great Lakes Mutual does offer a wide range of deductible choices but our primary concern is that we find the right fit for your situation. It really comes down to what you will be comfortable paying out of pocket should you have a claim.
3) If I have a claim do I call my agent or the company? How Long does a claim take to settle?
It’s always a good idea to contact your agent should you experience a claim. However, the Great Lakes Mutual home office is always there for you too. Our Mission is to expedite claims as efficiently as possible. It’s one reason we’ve been in business for 100 years.
4) If I move can I keep the same agent or do I need to find a new one in my area?
Although we do have agents throughout Michigan we understand the importance of these relationships- especially on moving day! Moving will most likely mean new policy for your home or property but this is a seamless operation for any of our agents.
5) Can I get a policy bound the same day I meet my agent?
Yes, in most cases our agents have binding authority and we pride ourselves on efficient and user-friendly service. Assuming the coverage is right for your situation, getting a policy issued is a top priority at Great Lakes Mutual.
6) How Will Great Lakes Mutual bill me?
Payments can be made in person or through an escrow account with your lender. Annual or semi-annual billings are available.
